Once multiple BLE nodes have been installed it is possible to improve the accuracy provided by Bluetooth Beacon Tracker by adapting the parameters of the location algorithm to the specific environment in which the BLE nodes have been installed.
This fine tuning can be done in two easy steps:
- the first step requires the collection of some calibration points inside the environment.
- the second step is done by the Accuware Technical Support server side. We will analyze the calibration points collected by you and we will set the parameters of the algorithm to enable the highest location accuracy. The computation of the best parameters can take up to 48 hours.
In order to complete the first step you need to follow carefully these easy instructions:
- Turn ON 1 BLE beacon and configure it as described inside this page.
- Open the Indoor Tracking Dashboard on a PC by clicking this link.
- Select BT Beacon Tracker > Settings and set the Noise Reduction to None.
- Select BT Beacon Tracker > Devices.
- If the BLE beacon that you want to use for the calibration is already inside the list of Known Devices then skip to Step 8. If your BLE beacon is not listed inside the Known devices table then scroll down until the Other device table and continue with Step 6 OR Step 7.
- CASE 1 – If there is only one BLE beacon in the Other device table then that is your BLE beacon.
- Click on the Edit button under the Action column.
- (OPTIONAL) Add a Name and a Description to the BLE beacon.
- Press Save.
- CASE 2 – If there is more than 1 BLE beacon in the Other device table then you need to find out the BLE beacon of interest:
- Install and open on your smartphone the App provided by the vendor of your BLE beacons.
- Activate the Bluetooth on your smartphone.
- Move the BLE beacon of interest next to the smartphone.
- Start the scanning of the BLE beacons around.
- Once you have the list of BLE beacons detected tap on the one closest to your smartphone and take note of the UUID, Major and Minor.
- Scroll up inside the Indoor Tracking Dashboard and click on the Add device button under the Known devices table.
- Add the UUID, Major and Minor of the BLE beacon.
- (OPTIONAL) Add a Name and a Description to the BLE beacon.
- Press Save.
- Click on BT Beacon Tracker > Calibration and select the Show switch for your BLE beacon (listed into the Devices table). You should now be able to see a yellow dot that represents the location of your BLE beacon.
- Move physically the BLE becon somewhere in the test area, check if the Last Seen value inside the Devices table shows a value between 0 and 5 seconds and drag and drop the YELLOW dot of the BLE Beacon in its real location. You will then get a pop-up with a message “Collect training data at this location?“. If the BLE beacon has been dragged and dropped in its real location then click on OK and wait 15 seconds without touching the BLE beacon!
- Scroll down and check if the calibration point has been added into the Calibration Points table.
- Move physically the BLE beacon in an area where no calibration points have been collected and repeat step 9 and 10.
Repeat steps 9 and 10 after having moved the BLE becon in 15 different locations of your site.
Once done please contact us using this form so they can analyze the calibration points collected and set the best parameters of the Bluetooth Beacon Tracker algorithm in order to enable the highest location accuracy.
IMPORTANT: once the calibration points have been collected DO NOT move the BLE nodes and DO NOT re-align the floor plan!
Fix a mistake made during the collection of a calibration point
If a calibration point has been dragged and dropped into a wrong location, you can delete it following the steps below:
- Select BT Beacon Tracker > Calibration.
- Scroll down until you see the Calibration Points table.
- From the top bar select the Floorplan view.
- Click on the calibration point that you want to remove.
- Click on Delete and confirm your choice. Do not click on Delete All!
